AI for work and small business

If you run your own business, freelance, or work independently, AI can save you several hours every week — on emails, social media, proposals, and customer responses.

Who this is for

Freelancers, sole traders, small business owners, anyone running a side project. If you spend time writing emails or dealing with admin — this lesson is for you.

Emails — drafting and replying

Describe the situation and what you want to say — AI drafts it. You edit, personalise, and send. Most people find this cuts email writing time by 60–70%.

"I need to chase a client for an invoice 3 weeks overdue. We have a good relationship and I don't want to be aggressive, but I need to be clear payment is expected this week. Can you draft a professional email?"

Social media captions

Tell AI what your business does, who your audience is, and what you want to say. It generates captions and post ideas — you add your photos and personality.

"I run a small independent florist in north London. My Instagram audience is mostly local women aged 30–60. Can you write 5 Instagram captions for this week — warm, friendly, not too salesy? Include hashtags."

Proposals and quotes

Describe the project and client — AI creates a well-structured proposal draft. Add your pricing, personalise it, and it looks professional without hours of formatting.

"I'm a freelance web designer. I've spoken with a small restaurant owner who wants a 5-page website with online booking and a menu. Can you write a professional project proposal? Budget is around £1,800."

One important boundary

Always review before sending

AI doesn't know your specific relationships, your tone of voice, or the nuances of your business. Use it to get to a first draft quickly — then make it yours.
